Why does NorthStar follow the OPS calendar?

The majority of NorthStar’s students attend Omaha Public Schools during the school year. For this reason, NorthStar follows the OPS calendar for holidays and breaks as well as inclement weather closures.

  • OPS Early Dismissal/Half Days: When OPS dismisses school early or has a half-day, NorthStar will NOT have programming on those days.
  • OPS Vacation/Staff Development Days: NorthStar will be closed during OPS semester breaks (Winter Break and Spring Break), holiday breaks, and for OPS staff development/training days. Parents/guardians should check with NorthStar staff to confirm schedules.
  • OPS Inclement Weather Closures: When OPS cancels school and/or after-school activities due to inclement weather, NorthStar will NOT have programming on those days.

Can boys still come to NorthStar if school isn't in session?

NorthStar follows the OPS calendar. Please follow the OPS calendar to see if NorthStar will be open. Students may NOT be dropped off when OPS is not in session.

Does NorthStar cancel programming on snow days?

NorthStar will be closed whenever OPS is closed due to inclement weather. NorthStar will close if OPS schools are dismissed early due to inclement weather, when OPS after-school activities are cancelled, or whenever there is an unexpected event that impacts the safety of our site.

Please call the NorthStar Welcome Center at 402-614-6360 ext. 210 for information on closings.

How much does NorthStar cost?

The investment associated with registering students in grades 3-8 is $50, which includes After School and Camp NorthStar programs. Please contact our Director of Program Growth, Samantha Chloupek for questions regarding the program and financial assistance via email or via phone at 402.614.6360 x 213.

School Year Programming: $50

Camp NorthStar ONLY: $50

Athletic Fees determined per sport.

How can I register my student?

View registration information here.

Students must enroll annually for NorthStar Programs. Enrollment for the upcoming school year begins in July, and Camp NorthStar registration beings in March. For more information on enrollment, please contact Samantha, our Director of Program Growth at 402-614-6360 ext. 213.

Can I pay fees online?

Enrollment fees/athletic team fees are processed at time of registration and are completed as a part of the application process in your PowerSchool Account.

What are the student pick-up options?

Pikmykid logo

Not all families have the same needs when it comes to transitioning their students from NorthStar each evening. To better help with this process, we provide 3 options that we believe will cover most parents’ needs:

Option 1 (Recommended): PikMyKid Parent Dismissal App

Option 2: Call the welcome desk and ask for your student to be dismissed.

Option 3: Walk up to the building to check out their son.

Option 4: Permission to walk home. Required: guardian waiver in enrollment forms.

Before leaving the building, everyone is required to sign out at the front desk or in the vestibule.

What are late pick-up fees?

We understand an occasional incident will arise where you may be late in picking up your student. Please call NorthStar immediately at 402-614-6360 ext. 210 if this is the case. If your student is not picked up by closing time, the primary parent/guardian will be called, and then others on the approved pick-up list. If the parent/guardian or emergency contact cannot be reached, staff will be forced to call the Omaha Police Department. In the case of a late pick-up, staff will discuss the matter with the parent/guardian and assess a late fee.

Student safety is our highest priority at NorthStar. For that reason, we are concerned when any student is still here after our 7:00 P.M. dismissal. NorthStar is not, and cannot be, staffed to provide supervision for students in these situations; hiring extra personnel to supervise is beyond our financial resources. All late pick-up fees must be paid before the student can return.

Download the late pick-up notice form here.

Does NorthStar provide transportation from schools?

NorthStar provides transportation from the schools listed below for the after-school program only. Students from other schools in the metro area and students attending daytime services will need to provide their own transportation.
